school is OUT

Just got back from a quick trip to Falls Lake State Recreation Area north of Durham. A couple days of reading a book on a big rock overlooking the lake, sleeping on the ground, delicious camp stove meals, Jim Beam around the campfire, and, most importantly, nooooo internet was the perfect start to summer!

We chose the Shinleaf camping area of Falls Lake because it is supposedly for "people who desire a more primitive camping experience." It was lovely and mostly deserted, but primitive just meant the sites didn't have electricity and the bathrooms were a ten minute hike up the path (I wonder what the non-primitive ones are like). But we enjoyed the woods and the weather, since before we know it North Carolina will be too hot to do anything but lounge in the kiddie pool in the backyard.

I did get to pull a tick out of Jen's ear! We also saw a tiny turtle. Luckily we did not see any lizards.
